Where are those ideas?

I like to write. Most of the writing that I’ve done has been non-fictional. They comprise the 33+ years of teaching I did in the form of journals. I guess that in present day reality, those journals would have been blogs. The first 15 of those years were all handwritten journals. It wasn’t until I had been word processing for awhile and increased my dexterity on the keyboard that I decided to take the handwritten journals and keyboard them into a word processor so that I could have them all together. That allowed me the opportunity to search for pieces of information should I choose to write something based on them. I’m now in the process of re-reading all of my journals to determine if I should write something.

I have two real tales that I wrote (in my adult life) that are fiction. One is Jeremy, and the other is Dora and the Jade of Knowledge. I really enjoyed writing those and would love to create more. I would also like to write tales that I can tell. I guess I could work the tales I’ve written into a telling, but would need to revise them again, I think for a listening audience.

So where do I get the ideas I need to create these tales? I know Jeremy just came from my imagination. Dora on the other hand though the tale was from my imagination, had characters that were based on real people I knew. (No I’m not going to divulge who they were). How does one make a tale for telling? Is it exactly the same as a tale for reading? These are things I hope to ponder and write about as this blog continues. Any thoughts?

About hdh

I have been telling stories for over 40 years and writing forever. I am a retired teacher and storyteller. I hope to expand upon my repertoire and use this blog as a place to do writing. The main purpose is to give me and others that choose to comment, a space in which to play with issues that deal with storytelling, storytelling ideas, storytelling in education, reactions to events, and just plain fun stories. I explore some of my own writing throughout, from character analysis, to fictional, to poetry, and personal stories. I go wherever my muse sends me. Enjoy!
