Whiplash! – “T” ease us; that is all each topic is meant to do.

Whiplash: An injury to the neck caused by an abrupt jerking motion of the head, either backward or forward; And in the case of writing or speaking, can be caused by a rapid change of topic without prior notice.

Whiplash! – “T” ease us; that is all each topic is meant to do.

It’s been a long time coming for this piece. But it’s the right time, right now. I’ve had plenty of time to think.  I’ve had to take a time out from the other kinds of writing that I’ve been doing before my time ran out. You see, sometimes I come up with ideas in no time at all. Those are the good times. I write a lot. Other times I have to work overtime just to finish on time. Those are the hard times. Then I don’t write as much. I can’t even tell you about what I will write next time. I could pass the time without thinking and that would be a waste of time. You know, time catches up with you; it’s not like you have all the time in the world. Getting things posted on schedule is a true test of time. When complete, you can say to yourself that it was time well spent.

I would like to keep writing this for time immemorial, however, as time goes by I must find a stopping point in a timely manner. This has to be posted. So before time passes me by, maybe just one last time…or not. Sorry, Times up.

Whiplash!

Television – When I was young I only had 7 channels to choose from 2, 4, 5, 7, 9, 11 & 13. Not only were you limited to those channels, but there were also only certain times of the day that some of them broadcast. During the wee hours of the morning, you would get a test pattern on your screen until 6:00 AM or so, when Sunrise Semester or some other program broke the test pattern on your screen and began the day of on-air shows. And best of all, all the programs were free.

Until I was older, we only had a black and white television. It wasn’t until my teen years that we could afford a color TV. We only had one television in the house for my family of 5 (my parents, two older sisters and me).

Nowadays there are multiple kinds of televisions of all sizes and types in everyone’s home and hundreds of channels. You can not only watch shows on your TV, but also on your computer, phones, tablets. You can stream lots of programs as well as movies on network services like Hulu and Netflix and Amazon Prime. These programs are on 24/7; thousands of them are available. And the biggest difference from my youth is that most of these shows cost; either by subscribing to the cable company or subscribing through the streaming services.

Choices were a lot simpler when I was younger.

If you have time to read and respond, feel free to comment. How many television choices did you have when you were young? How many TVs did you have in your house?

The end is near…“U” better believe I’m going to need whiplash surgery after this.

About hdh

I have been telling stories for over 40 years and writing forever. I am a retired teacher and storyteller. I hope to expand upon my repertoire and use this blog as a place to do writing. The main purpose is to give me and others that choose to comment, a space in which to play with issues that deal with storytelling, storytelling ideas, storytelling in education, reactions to events, and just plain fun stories. I explore some of my own writing throughout, from character analysis, to fictional, to poetry, and personal stories. I go wherever my muse sends me. Enjoy!
